Work With Me

Organizations, journalists, nonprofits, campaigns, and research teams often struggle to make sense of complex data on religion, politics, and culture. I help translate those numbers into clear, actionable insights and strategies.

I’m Alex Bass, a data scientist and researcher (currently full-time at Meta) specializing in surveys, experiments, and causal inference. I’ve also worked at political polling firms and a survey internet panel, giving me a unique mix of experience across tech, politics, and survey research. My work has been featured in the Deseret News, Salt Lake Tribune, and shared with thousands through my Mormon Metrics project. With six years of experience in both industry and public affairs, I bring rigorous analysis and clear storytelling to every project.

How I Can Help

1. Survey Research & Polling

  • Design neutral, reliable questionnaires on religion and politics

  • Build sampling & weighting strategies you can trust

  • Deliver clear findings you can confidently publish or present

2. Data Analysis & Insights

  • Turn messy data into clean, actionable insights

  • Analyze demographic and political trends (esp. LDS and religious communities)

  • Benchmark against national datasets (CES, GSS, Pew, etc.)

3. Data Science & Experimentation

  • Develop custom predictive and classification models

  • Design and evaluate A/B tests to guide real-world decisions

  • Segment audiences for tailored messaging or strategy

4. Strategy & Advisory

  • Understand how religious demographics affect campaigns, nonprofits, and institutions

  • Produce custom reports (e.g., annual “State of X” or topical deep dives)

  • Provide executive briefings and data-driven strategy sessions

Pricing

Every project is unique, but here’s a general guide:

  • Hourly consulting: Standard rate of $125/hour, flexible for longer-term or mission-driven projects

  • Survey projects: Costs vary by audience.

    • General population surveys typically start at $2,500–$5,000, depending on length and sample size.

    • Specialized religious groups (e.g., Mormons) are smaller and harder to reach, so costs are higher — usually $7,500+ for a reliable sample. I can advise on strategies to reduce costs (regional oversamples, blending vendors, or adding questions to existing surveys).

  • Custom reports & strategy briefings: from $2,000, depending on scope

Exact pricing is finalized after our consultation based on project size and needs.

About Me

I hold a Master’s in Data Science from the University of Virginia and a BA in Political Science from Brigham Young University. Over the past six years, I’ve led projects at Meta, Echelon Insights, Morning Consult, and Dynata, working on everything from Bayesian attribution models to election turnout prediction and national survey weighting.

Through Mormon Metrics, my independent research brand, I’ve built an audience of thousands of readers and social followers who rely on my work for data-driven insights about religion in American life.
